about our church
a progressive community of faith
We joke sometimes that Lowell's First Congregational Church is the "best kept secret" in the community. But the truth is, we've been a staple of Lowell for more than 165 years; with all that history comes wisdom, and we're a church steeped in the ancient wisdom of Christianity.
But here's the thing: it's the 21st Century, and the world needs people of faith who are less "preach-y" and more "do-y." As progressive Christians, we believe that the Christian faith comes alive when we actively seek out justice in our world.
So each Sunday, we gather for prayer, song, study, and reflection that helps us prepare for the work of the week ahead.

Open & Affirming
We are proudly an Open & Affirming church - that's a designation given by our denomination, the United Church of Christ, for churches which radically and totally embrace LGBTQIA+ people as equals in every way. You are safe here - you are not alone.
We intend for all people to feel welcome at our church, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, religious background, spiritual beliefs, age, disability, truly anything. You do not have to subscribe to a specific doctrine or way of life in order to be included here. We believe that diversity is the best representation of the image of God. And we believe that justice work is the best mission for God. We would love to have you participate.
